Histoire de vie réelle
Finding keywords is just the first part of the process. The real strategic work begins when you organize those keywords and map them to a clear content plan. This prevents you from creating redundant content and ensures that every piece of content you produce serves a unique purpose.
1. What is Keyword Mapping?
Keyword mapping is the process of assigning a group of related keywords to a specific piece of content or a single web page. It's a strategic plan that ensures you don't have multiple pages on your site trying to rank for the same thing.
Without a keyword map, you can run into a problem called keyword cannibalization. This occurs when two or more pages on your website are targeting the same keywords. Search engines get confused about which page is more relevant, and as a result, neither page ranks as well as it could. This is a common and costly mistake.
2. Creating a Topic Cluster
A powerful way to organize your content is by creating "topic clusters". This structure consists of:
Cluster Pages:
Several shorter, more detailed articles that target specific, long-tail keywords and are related to the pillar topic (e.g., "Best Email Marketing Tools," "How to Write a Welcome Email," "Email Subject Line Best Practices").
Pillar Page:
A long, comprehensive piece of content that targets a broad, high-level keyword (e.g., "Email Marketing Strategy").
All the cluster pages link back to the pillar page, creating a web of internal links that signals to search engines that the pillar page is the ultimate authority on the subject.
3. Simple Steps for Keyword Mapping
Here's how to create a simple keyword map using the list you generated in the previous lesson:
01
Group Similar Keywords:
Look for keywords with similar intent and meaning. For example, "how to start a podcast" and "how to launch a new podcast" can be grouped together.
02
Identify the Primary Keyword:
For each group, choose one primary keyword that best represents the topic. This will be the main keyword you optimize the page for.
03
Assign a Content Idea:
Give each keyword group a specific content idea (e.g., a blog post, a service page, an FAQ section). Use a simple spreadsheet or a document to track your ideas.
This simple process provides a clear plan that ensures every piece of content you create has a purpose and a pathway to ranking.
