Histoire de vie réelle

This lesson provides a closer look at the three foundational pillars of SEO. While each pillar is distinct, they are deeply interconnected, and a successful SEO strategy requires you to master all three.

Pillar 1: On-Page SEO

On-Page SEO refers to all the optimization you do directly on your website to improve its ranking. These are changes you have full control over. It is about telling search engines what your content is about and demonstrating its value to a human user. You are signaling relevance and quality. The more relevant and well-structured your content is, the more likely search engines are to rank it for the correct keywords.

Examples:

  • Keyword Research: Finding the words and phrases your target audience uses to search online.

  • Content Creation: Writing high-quality, in-depth articles that answer user questions.

  • Title Tags and Meta Descriptions: Crafting compelling titles and summaries that show up in search results.

  • Header Tags (H1, H2, H3): Using headings to organize your content logically.

  • Internal Linking: Linking from one page on your site to another to help with navigation.

  • Image Optimization: Using descriptive file names and alt text for your images.

Pillar 2: Technical SEO

Technical SEO involves optimizing your website's technical backend to help search engines crawl and index your site more effectively. It is the framework that supports your content. If On-Page SEO is the content of your book, Technical SEO is the structure of the library itself. If the library is poorly organized or difficult to navigate, no one will be able to find your book. Technical SEO ensures that your site is fast, secure, and easily accessible to search engine crawlers. Without a solid technical foundation, your on-page efforts will struggle to gain traction.

Examples:

  • Site Speed: Ensuring your pages load quickly on both desktop and mobile devices.

  • Mobile-Friendliness: Making sure your website is responsive and easy to use on a smartphone.

  • Sitemaps: Providing an XML sitemap that helps search engines find all the important pages on your site.

  • Robots.txt: Using a file to tell search engine crawlers which pages they should or should not access.

  • Structured Data (Schema Markup): Adding code to your site that helps search engines better understand your content (e.g., product ratings, recipes, events).

Pillar 3: Off-Page SEO

Off-Page SEO refers to all actions taken outside of your website to influence its ranking. These factors build your site's authority and reputation on the web. Off-Page SEO is like getting positive reviews for your business. The more positive reviews you have from reputable sources, the more trustworthy you appear to potential customers. In the world of SEO, these "reviews" are primarily backlinks—links from other websites pointing to yours.

Examples:

  • Link Building: Earning high-quality backlinks from other relevant and authoritative websites.

  • Social Media Marketing: Promoting your content on social platforms to increase visibility and brand mentions.

  • Online Reviews: Gaining positive reviews on sites like Yelp, Google Business Profile, and others.

  • Brand Mentions: When other websites or publications mention your brand name even without a link.
