Histoire de vie réelle

Beyond backlinks, search engines use other external factors to gauge a website's authority. Two of the most important are brand mentions and social signals, both of which tell search engines how popular and trusted your brand is.

1.1 Brand Mentions

A brand mention is simply a mention of your company's name, a key product, or a key person from your company on another website. These are also known as "unlinked mentions" when they don't include a hyperlink.

While an unlinked mention doesn't pass direct link equity, it can still act as a ranking signal. Search engines are able to associate your brand name with a mention and use it as a vote of confidence. Think of it as a recommendation in a conversation. When a respected source mentions your brand, it builds trust and authority.

1.2 How to Cultivate Brand Mentions:

  • Create Great Content: The better your content, the more likely people are to mention you as a source.

  • Digital PR: Actively reach out to journalists and bloggers to get your story or expertise mentioned in their articles.

  • Be a Great Resource: Be a reliable source of information, so other sites naturally cite and mention your brand in their content.

2.1 Social Signals

Social signals are the cumulative number of likes, shares, comments, and other forms of engagement your content receives on social media platforms.

While social signals are not a direct ranking factor for Google, they are a powerful correlational signal. A piece of content that is shared thousands of times on Twitter or Facebook will get more visibility, leading to more organic traffic, and likely more backlinks from other websites.

2.2 How to Cultivate Social Signals:

  • Create Shareable Content: Create content that is emotional, inspiring, or genuinely helpful.

  • Be Active: Actively engage with your audience on social media and build a community around your brand.

  • Add Social Sharing Buttons: Make it easy for your readers to share your content on their favorite social networks.

Brand mentions and social signals are not a replacement for a solid backlink strategy, but they are a crucial part of building an authoritative and trusted brand online.
